Match funding: Rio Beardsmore

27 Jan 2024

Rio raised £847 for the Little Princess Trust by cutting 14 inches of her own hair, to donate towards making much needed wigs for children fighting cancer or other long term diseases

Having tragically lost her amazing stepson, Alfie in 2021 to neuroblastoma aged just 8 years old, Rio was inspired to raise money for the Little Princess Trust in his memory.

As well as providing wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who are undergoing treatment for Cancer, or suffering from other hair-loss conditions, they are also one of the largest funders of childhood Cancer research in the UK.

Rio cut, and donated an amazing fourteen inches of hair to use for making real hair wigs, and raised an incredible £647! This was match funded through the Kier Foundation, bringing the total raised to £847, and more than covering the £700 cost of creating and fitting a wig for a child in need.

Rio said; "Applying for Kier match funding was incredibly easy . If I’m honest I would have completely forgotten about the option, if it wasn’t for my wonderful colleague Sandra Morgan telling me I should apply for it to add to my fundraiser. It’s an absolute no brainer to boost the monies for your charity and they kindly donated to my page very quickly"
